After a difficult first half of the season on loan at RB Salzburg, Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has made the switch to La Liga’s Las Palmas.

It’s set to be a quiet deadline day for the Reds, with no major moves expected, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few tidbits of news of interest for Liverpool fans, including Stefan Bajcetic’s first comments following his move to join La Liga side Las Palmas.

The 20-year-old Spaniard of Serbian descent had undergone a difficult run on loan with Austria’s RB Salzburg, following Liverpool assistant Pepijn Lijnders there when he became the club’s new manager. Bajcetic, though, never seemed fully settled and with Lijnders now sacked another move seemed wise.

“It’s important that players on loan are playing,” was Bajcetic’s straightforward response when asked about his decision to push for a move away from the Austrian club. “Las Palmas is a team that plays good football and gives opportunities to players on loan.

“So I hope there will be some for me. Considering things, it was the best option for me. I want to grow as a footballer, and I think I can improve here. I spoke with the coach and from the start, he gave me a lot of confidence. He asked me to bring attitude and commitment and I told him that will not be lacking.”

Las Palmas are currently 15th in La Liga but just two points ahead of Alaves in 18th and the relegation places—and four clear of Valencia in 19th. It’s a relegation dogfight, then, that Bajcetic has signed up for, and the expectation will be for him to see significant playing time in the next few months.

“I’m ready to play right away,” he added when asked about his expected role. “If the coach gives me the chance, I’ll take it. As a kid I played at centre back, but when I joined Liverpool I moved into central midfield and that’s where I feel most comfortable now.”
