January Movement for Liverpool confined to younger players’ loans
James McConnell has had a strong few weeks in a Liverpool shirt, and the young midfielder is set to stay on Merseyside rather than go out on loan for the remainder of the season, per Arne Slot.
The Liverpool head coach initially suggested he might be heading on loan, but this uncertainty has subsequently been walked back following the youngster’s promising Champions League display (per James Pearce last week). Though there has been a lot of interest for McConnell near the close of the winter window, McConnell will be staying at Liverpool and will hope to contribute to the team’s charge for silverware in domestic and European competition.
Meanwhile, Kaide Gordon is heading to Portsmouth on loan following a disappointing half-season on loan to Norwich City, from whom he has been recalled early due to lack of playing time. Thus far this season Gordon has started one game for the Canaries, coming off the bench nine times.
After training with the Liverpool U21s for weeks following his recall, Gordon should be confirmed as on loan to the Championship side Portsmouth before the window closes.
Gordon, whose promising early career featured unlucky injury setbacks, will hope to get back on track at Portsmouth.
